My Life Priorities System

What is a LIfe Priority?

A "Life Priority" is simply a "sub-mission" for a particular domain of life. So, you have your overall Mission, but you have sub-missions for the areas of your life you find particularly significant.

Categories of Life

In order to live a full and balanced life, you first have to have an idea about the areas of your life you need to consciously manage. Everyone has a basic idea of these categories, but I find it beneficial to make these explicit. Here are my most basic categories of life:

Personal Development

This category consists of the set of all activities intended to develop you as a person and your ability to thrive in life. I further break this category down into: Spiritual Development, Body Development, Psyche Development, and Behavioral Development.

Work, Contributions, & Obligations

This category consists of the set of all activities related to action and accomplishment in your life. The principles of work also apply to the principles of charity and household management.

Resources & Lifestyle

This category consists of the set of all activities related directly to your prosperity in life. It includes Financial Management, Asset Management, Household Management, etc., as well as how your live your life and enjoy these resources & assets.

Relationships/Community(ies)

This category consists of the set of all activities related directly to your relationships with other living things. Compassion, kindness, and improving the lives of others not only applies to your friendships, intimate relationships, and community, but also to your pets and the other animals of nature.

Legacy

This category consists of the set of all activities related to what you want to leave behind after you are gone. This is the realm of Death & Self-Transcendence.

Conclusion

You may have different categories. By figuring them out, and establishing a "Life Priority" for each, you can design a behavioral system around it to ensure you never drop the ball.

In order to address these broad life categories I have created the following overarching Life Priorities:

  • Grow Forever (Personal Development)
  • Reach for the Divine (PD - Spiritual Development)
  • Optimize My Body (PD - Body Development
  • Infinite Competence (PD - Psyche Development)
  • Integral Behavior (PD - Behavioral Development)
  • Create-Elevate (Work, Contributions, & Obligations)
  • Prosper (Resources/Assets)
  • Elevate Others (Relationships)
  • Leave Something Great Behind (Legacy)

These Life Priorities are then broken down into my Long-Term Goals, Mid-Term Goals & Short-Term goals, but those are dynamic and will change whereas my Mission & Life Priorities theoretically will not.
